Ody's Latest Humanitarian Mission to Ukraine
Michigan Flyer VP Ody Norkin traveled back to Eastern Europe this month on his sixth humanitarian mission to Ukraine. This time, he helped deliver an ambulance to the industrial city of Kamianske, in the Dnipro region, which lost ambulances to Russian drone attacks.
A generous family in Okemos, Mich., read about Ody’s mission and donated most of the $60,000 needed to purchase and equip this modern Mercedes Sprinter ambulance in Germany and stock it with medical supplies.
Ody’s charitable mission, begun in 2022, has inspired an enormous volunteer response involving the East Lansing Rotary Club—plus hundreds of people, businesses, health systems, and nonprofit organizations across the U.S. and around the globe—to pitch in.
Previously, the effort has delivered to war-torn Ukraine four trauma-ready ambulances plus a transit van to transport elderly and infirm refugees out of harm’s way; an entire shipping container full of medical supplies; and an updated digital x-ray machine as well as an arthroscopic surgical system. (For details, see our reports of May, June, and Dec. 2022, and Feb. 2024.)
If you are interested in contributing to the cause, you can donate directly via PayPal through the East Lansing Rotary Foundation.
"We deeply appreciate every contribution toward this critical mission," says Ody. "Even small amounts have added up to make an enormous difference in easing the pain and suffering."
