New TSA Screening Technology is Changing the Security Process
If you're traveling with Michigan Flyer to or from DTW, you may notice a different experience at airport security.
Many airports across the country are rolling out advanced 3D CT scanners at TSA checkpoints. These scanners provide officers with a much clearer image of the contents of your bag, helping improve both security and efficiency.
In addition to providing enhanced screening, the new CT scanners have smaller entry tunnels that measure 24.5 inches wide by 16.5 inches high. While the standard domestic carry-on size for most U.S. airlines remains 22 inches long by 14 inches wide by 9 inches tall, travelers should make sure their luggage not only meets their airline's size requirements but can also fit through the TSA scanner.
If a carry-on bag cannot fit through the scanner, TSA officers may direct passengers back to the airline ticket counter to check the bag before re-entering the security checkpoint. Taking a few moments to verify your bag's dimensions before leaving home can help you avoid unexpected delays at the airport.
Depending on the airport and checkpoint, travelers may also be able to:
- Leave laptops and many electronics inside their carry-on bags.
- Keep approved liquids packed inside their bags at some locations.
- Move through security more quickly with fewer manual bag inspections.
Keep in mind that these new scanners are not yet available at every airport or checkpoint, so travelers should continue to follow TSA officer instructions during the screening process.
Michigan Flyer Baggage Policy
To help ensure a comfortable trip for all passengers, Michigan Flyer has updated its baggage policy.
Each ticketed passenger may bring:
- One checked bag (stored underneath the coach)
- One on-board item that fits safely in the overhead compartment or under your seat
- One personal item, such as a purse, laptop bag, or small tote bag
